One Room Challenge: Spring 2022 Week 8

Hello and welcome to the blog! It’s the final week of this season’s One Room Challenge (Week 8)! The weeks flew by, and I have spent all my free time on this project for the last two months. This was a big one. I didn’t get to finish everything that I planned, I would say the project is 90% done, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. Over the next couple of months, I will be finishing up some of my original plans, so be sure to check back here and follow me on Instagram to see the updates. Now, without further ado, let’s get into some before and afters!

Atrium Before & After

Projects completed in the atrium:

  • Cleaned up

  • Demoed tile and ground concrete smooth

  • DIY flagstone pavers

  • Added Vego garden beds

  • DIY plant chandelier

My thoughts and things I didn’t finish:

I love how this area turned out! But it is still a work in progress. In between the flagstone pavers, I planted a groundcover plant that will fill in over time; eventually, the whole area will be lush and green! I also plan on building a privacy screen/trellis for one of the garden beds. And of course, I need to actually plant some vegetables in the garden beds. It’s currently summer here in Florida, so it’s too hot to grow most veggies. In Fall, I can really get the garden going. For now, I have a few peppers and tomatoes in pots. This will be a great spot to hang out when my Fiancé is grilling this summer!

Deck Before & After

Projects completed in the deck area:

  • Demoed the hot tub and partial deck

  • Rebuilt full deck

  • Painted deck

  • Added TV

  • Set up workout equipment

My thoughts and things I didn’t finish:

This part of the patio was definitely the most intimidating. I had never demoed a hot tub before or built something of this scale. I thought it would take me forever to do, but in reality, it was one of the fastest projects of this ORC. It took me one weekend to demo and another weekend to rebuild the deck. This is a purposeful area now, and I’m excited to use it! I wanted to add a waterproof roman shade and build storage for the weights, but I didn’t have time; it will be coming though!

Pass-through/Lounge Before & After

Projects completed in the pass-through/lounge:

  • Cleaned up

  • Ground the concrete floors smooth

  • Updated furniture cushions

  • Painted aluminum screen enclosure

  • Added new decor

My thoughts and things I didn’t finish:

Grinding the concrete floors smooth took about 25 hours of work with an angle grinder and diamond blade. It was the most tedious part of this ORC, but it makes such a big difference. Before, the floor had multiple layers of mortar and glue, and now it looks like new concrete. I still need to seal the concrete to prevent any staining, but that shouldn’t take long. Unfortunately, I also didn’t get to update the pass-through countertops, which is disappointing, but I will get to it eventually. My Fiancé and I are already enjoying this space, and I know everyone will enjoy it when we have gatherings; it’s so cozy!

Thank you for following along on this 8-week challenge with me! I truly appreciate all the support; it means more to me than you know. Let me know in the comments what part of the patio you like best!

I’ll be taking a little break from big projects over the next couple of weeks to catch up on some not-so-fun home projects, but if you’d like to see what I’m up to, give me a follow over on Instagram. And if you have some time, check out some of the other great ORC projects on the One Room Challenge Blog.

Missed a week? Catch up on my ORC progress.
