One Room Challenge: Spring 2022 Week 6

Hello and welcome to the blog! It’s Week 6 of the One Room Challenge. Where has the time gone? This week I worked on getting the deck painted.

In case you forgot, I built this deck over an old hot tub area in our patio back in ORC week 2. I still can’t believe I built a deck by myself! Unfortunately, I had to wait for the pressure-treated wood to dry out a bit before I could paint it, but now is the time!

I started off by priming everything with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer. I already had this primer on hand, which can be used on exterior surfaces, so I went for it. If I had to buy primer, I would have had it tinted to a darker color because the color I chose to paint the deck is . . . black!

I had to paint the sides of the deck boards, which was time-consuming. I tried multiple types of brushes to speed up the process, and by far, the best brush for this was a foam paint brush that fit perfectly between the boards.

I used BEHR Porch and Patio Floor Paint in Low-Lustre Tar Black for the deck. I did two full coats, but the coverage was pretty good with just one coat. I wanted a paint that would hold up to being walked on, which only time will tell, but it looks great right now! The black does show dirt/dust (which there is a lot of right now because I just started grinding the concrete floor). However, I don’t think it will be a problem once the area isn’t a construction zone.

Deck from start to finish

Seeing how much this space has changed overall makes me so happy. I’m glad I took the chance to learn something new by building this deck, and now that it’s painted, it finally looks done. In a few weeks, it’ll be a fully functioning workout area!

Thanks for following along with this project! Check me out on Instagram if you haven’t already, and be sure to take a look at some of the other ORC projects on the One Room Challenge Blog.
