Monthly Book Roundup: January 2024

Hello and welcome to the blog! I’ve really gotten back into reading the last two years, and I thought it would be fun to document my reads on the blog! Fantasy has always been my genre of choice, but I also love a fun quick romance read between series with a bit more world-building. This year I also want to dip my toe into some dark mystery, if you have any recommendations! I would love to know what you’re reading, let me know in the comments below or DM me on Instagram. I also track my books on StoryGraph, as a scientist I just love all the data they compile from your books! If you’re on StoryGraph, let’s be friends! Let’s get into the books I’ve read and listened to this month!

  1. Sword Catcher

    Author: Cassandra Clare Format: Hardcover

DNF (Will go back to it in February)

    • Let me just start this off by saying that Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite authors, the shadowhunter universe is simply amazing, and with those things in mind, I thought I would love this book. This book is a fantasy with royalty and some hidden secrets, right up my alley, but for some reason I found myself bored by one of the character’s POV, so in every one of those chapters I felt like skipping. BUT I do find the story intriguing and I plan on picking this book back up again in February after I finish reading Crescent City Book 3.

  2. A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 3) *Favorite of the month*

  3. A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 4)

  4. A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 5)

Author: Sarah J. Maas Format: Audiobook

    Reread

    • I read this series back in 2022 and absolutely loved it, I’m an ACOTAR girlie (TOG is the GOAT though)! In preparation for the CC3 release at the end of January, I wanted a refresh of ACOTAR. This time I listened to the audiobook versions, and it was a nice change of pace. I did have to make sure the sound was low enough that no one around me would hear the spice, IYKYK! I love the characters in this series and I’m invested in where they will all end up, can’t wait for the next book!

  5. House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City Book 1)

  6. House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City Book 2)

Author: Sarah J. Maas Format: Audiobook

    Reread

    • I also read this series in 2022, and it’s my least favorite in the SJM universe…BUT with how CC2 ended, I must push through to see what happens next in the third book. I’m personally not a fan of most of the characters in CC1. The second book does get better with more character development. The only characters I loved from the beginning were Danika, Conner, Ruhn, Ithan, Lehabah, and Hypaxia. We’ll see if the third book makes me love the series! I’m starting CC3 tomorrow!
